DSTV DELICIOUS FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 30 Years of Creative Freedom with Star-Studded Tribute Show. – FASHION FORCE AFRICA
Johannesburg, South Africa (August 22, 2024): Get ready for a powerful and emotional tribute as the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival Powered by LottoStar honors South Africa’s musical legends during its 11th year.
The festival, taking place on September 21st and 22nd at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, will feature a special 30 Years of Creative Freedom Tribute Show, produced in collaboration with Real Concerts. This show will pay homage to iconic artists who have passed away but whose music continues to inspire generations.
One of the most poignant aspects of the tribute will be performances by the children of departed stars. Selema Writes (son of Hugh Masekela), Ayanda Khumalo and Tshepo Mngoma (children of Sibongile Khumalo), Tokollo and Tumelo Tshabalala (sons of Mandoza), and Jesse Clegg (son of Johnny Clegg) will all take the stage, symbolizing the passing of the musical torch from one generation to the next.
The first night of the festival (September 21st) will focus on South Africa’s vibrant hip-hop and kwaito scene. Artists like Boom Shaka, Khuli Chana, Yanga, Okmalumkoolkat, Reason, Maggz, Touchline, Cassper Nyovest, Morafe, and Focalistic will perform medleys of songs by legends like AKA, HHP, Lebo Mathosa, Mandoza, Pro Kid, and Riky Rick. The dynamic Robot Boii (Mzwakhe Mbuli Jnr) will host the segment, ensuring a night filled with rhythm and remembrance.
On Sunday, the festival takes a step back in time with a two-hour segment celebrating South African musical giants like Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Lucky Dube, Sibongile Khumalo, Ray Phiri (Stimela), Johnny Clegg, Joseph Tshabalala (Ladysmith Black Mambazo), and Brenda Fassie. This special segment, hosted by the poetic Mzwakhe Mbuli Snr, will feature performances by Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Jesse Clegg, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Loyiso Bala, Zolani Mahola, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Selema Writes, Lloyiso Gijana, Tshepo Mngoma, and Ayanda Khumalo.
While the tribute show is a major highlight, the DStv Delicious Festival offers much more. Headlining artists include Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Thandiswa Mazwai, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Legends Live by Oskido, G-Force and the Musical Maestro, and Sjava. On the Channel O Dance Stage, festival-goers can dance the night away with DBN Gogo, Nokwazi, Heavy K, Kent, Kabza De Small, PH, and Shimza.
