The Feather Awards returned for its 16th edition. This prestigious South African ceremony celebrates LGBTQIA+ excellence. It delivered a powerful message: “Borderless Existence.” This year’s theme transcended boundaries. It recognized the resilience and creativity of LGBTQIA+ individuals. It also extended its arms to differently-abled people and marginalized groups.
The trendy Sheds in Johannesburg transformed into a vibrant hub of unity on November 7th, 2024. A touch of rain even added a touch of serendipity, delaying the start with a touch of fashionable flair. The Feather Awards XVI focused on inclusivity. Their goal was to recognize individuals, organizations, and projects. These honorees champion equality and social justice for all.
The 2024 nominees embodied the theme beautifully. Each nominee played a significant role. Fearless activists, supportive media personalities, and industry leaders pushed boundaries. They amplified underrepresented voices. They weren’t just LGBTQIA+ icons, but champions of inclusivity for all marginalized groups.

- The African Feather Award of the Year honored HIV and social justice activist and acclaimed film director Zackie Achmat.
