Calling all filmmakers! The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), a leading African film festival and Oscar Qualifying Festival, is accepting submissions for its 46th edition. This is your chance to showcase your work on a global stage and potentially qualify for the Academy Awards.
Presented by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the Durban International Film Festival is the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa. Founded in 1979, DIFF has a rich history of celebrating cinematic excellence. The festival’s Head of Programming and Festival Manager, Andrea Voges, was even recognized by Screen International as one of the “25 Future Leaders: Programmers and Curators to Watch.” This prestigious recognition highlights DIFF’s role in shaping the future of cinema.
DIFF is searching for exceptional films completed after January 2024 that have not yet been publicly screened or streamed online in South Africa. They welcome submissions across various categories:
- Feature Films: African fictional films with a runtime exceeding 60 minutes. Submissions from non-African filmmakers are also encouraged.
- Documentaries: African documentaries with a runtime exceeding 60 minutes. DIFF is open to documentaries from around the world.
- Short Films: Fictional and non-fiction films under 60 minutes, open to filmmakers from all countries.
- Student Films: Fictional and non-fiction films under 60 minutes, open to student filmmakers worldwide. The director must have been enrolled in a tertiary institution during the film’s production year.
The deadline for submissions is fast approaching! Get your films in by January 31, 2025 to be considered for the festival.
