Get ready for a vibrant and thought-provoking showcase at Paris Fashion Week! South Africa’s celebrated brand, MaXhosa Africa, returns on September 27th, 2024, with their latest collection, “MAXHONNAISSE.” This innovative collection goes beyond the runway, aiming to redefine the very concept of luxury African fashion.
“African luxury is often defined by those on the outside looking in,” says MaXhosa Africa’s Chief Creative Director, Laduma Ngxokolo. “MAXHONNAISSE challenges this perception. It’s about showcasing what luxury truly means to us – a fusion of refinement, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to cultural heritage.”
Founded in 2010, MaXhosa Africa has built a reputation for exquisite, bespoke pieces. Drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of Xhosa culture, the brand’s designs incorporate intricate beadwork patterns, symbolism, and colors. MaXhosa Africa doesn’t simply replicate these traditions – it reimagines them for the modern world. Think contemporary knitwear designs that seamlessly blend modern styles with age-old techniques.
MaXhosa Africa has steadily garnered a loyal following, both within South Africa and internationally. Their recent New York store opening and successful showcases in Paris and London are testaments to this growing popularity. The brand has also dressed some of the world’s most influential figures, including Michelle Obama, Sarah Jakes-Roberts, and Alicia Keys.
The highly anticipated runway show on September 27th will unveil the SS25 collection, MAXHONNAISSE. Laduma describes the collection as a celebration of Africa’s rebirth, drawing inspiration from the opulence and exuberance of Renaissance art. Think jewel tones, floral motifs, and dazzling crowns, all infused with the brand’s signature patterns and a distinctly African perspective. “Patterns are the DNA of MaXhosa Africa,” says Laduma. “They are a legacy from our ancestors which we carry forward.”
MaXhosa Africa’s Journey Continues

With MAXHONNAISSE, MaXhosa Africa promises a captivating showcase, challenging perceptions and celebrating the unique beauty of African luxury.
