The 73rd Miss Universe pageant takes place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. This year, contestants from a record-breaking 127 countries will vie for the title, currently held by Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. The event will be hosted by US TV personality Mario Lopez. The commentators include Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray. Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza will also provide commentary. Joining them are Puerto Rican TV personality Carlos Adyan and Brazilian actress/model Julia Gama.

A noteworthy change for the Miss Universe organisation is the new age eligibility, allowing all women over 18 to participate. This move towards inclusivity aligns perfectly with Mia Le Roux’s personal message. As she prepares for the finale, including the highly anticipated national costume reveal on November 16th, Mia expresses her gratitude for the immense support from South Africa:

“It’s been a whirlwind, but I’m loving experiencing Mexico’s beauty, culture, and meeting incredible contestants. While I’m working hard, I’m savoring every moment. Thank you, South Africa, for your messages – they truly mean the world. I’ll carry all of you with me on stage!”

South Africa boasts a remarkable record at the Miss Universe pageant. Mia Le Roux steps onto the stage with a strong legacy behind her:

  • 2017: Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (Tebow) – Crowned Miss Universe
  • 2018: Tamaryn Green (Green-Nxumalo) – First Runner-up
