Johannesburg, South Africa – POLO South Africa takes a groundbreaking step towards sustainable fashion with its AW24 collection, crafted from 100% locally-farmed and biodegradable merino wool. This collection embodies the concept of “farm-to-closet,” prioritizing ethical production and minimizing environmental impact.

The AW24 collection celebrates the inherent sustainability of merino wool. This natural fiber offers exceptional warmth and comfort while remaining fully biodegradable. At the end of its life cycle, wool decomposes and enriches the soil, leaving no harmful trace behind.

“Landfills overflow with discarded fast fashion,” says Alia Peer, Creative Director of POLO South Africa. “We need solutions to this unsustainable cycle. Wool offers a far better alternative, as it biodegrades completely and even nourishes the earth in the process.”

Sustainability extends beyond material selection for POLO South Africa. The AW24 collection boasts a fully vertically integrated supply chain. Partnering with Northern Cape farmer Stefan Gerber, POLO ensures all production stages, from sheep rearing and shearing to wool processing and garment creation, occur within a 450 km radius. This approach minimizes the collection’s carbon footprint and promotes traceable production practices.

“Sustainability is at the core of everything we do,” Alia emphasizes. “This collection reflects our commitment to ethical sourcing, responsible production, and supporting local communities.”

The collection itself pays homage to its origins. The color palette draws inspiration from the breathtaking Karoo landscape, featuring natural tones like undyed Ecru wool, alongside Navy, Charcoal, Sand, and a unique Chocolate Melange shade that perfectly matches the soil where the sheep graze.

The designs remain true to POLO’s signature style, offering timeless and versatile pieces. Men can enjoy comfortable knit staples like quarter-zip jerseys and crew neck sweaters, while women have the option of an oversized cardigan, a quarter-zip pullover, or a wool-ribbed sweater.
