29 November Johannesbug South Africa: Proudly South African Local Fashion Police 2024 competition showcased South Africa’s dynamic fashion scene at its grand finale on Thursday, November 28th, at The Station Newtown. The event was a true celebration of local creativity, innovation, and the unyielding passion that South African designers bring to the runway. From cutting-edge designs to unique cultural influences, the competition highlighted the immense talent within the country’s fashion industry, cementing its place on the global fashion map.

This year’s competition proved to be the most electrifying yet, attracting hundreds of entries nationwide. The judges, renowned designers Orapeleng Modutle, Jessica Jane Molebatsi, Mzukisi Mbane, and Ole Ledimo, had their work cut out for them as they searched for the most talented and dedicated local fashion champions.

The competition culminated in the crowning of four exceptional winners, each embodying the campaign’s core values of local pride and design excellence. These rising stars were treated to a star-studded evening, walking the runway in breathtaking bespoke creations designed by their respective judges. Each winner also received a phenomenal prize – R40,000 worth of bespoke designs crafted exclusively for them by their mentor judges.

The night was a feast for the senses, captivating the audience with electrifying performances, including a legendary set by the iconic Boom Shaka. But the true highlight was the surprise alumni fashion showcase. This segment brought back past Local Fashion Police designers who have since made significant waves in the industry. Their latest creations received thunderous applause, a testament to the campaign’s lasting impact on nurturing local talent.

The evening transcended the world of fashion, promoting a powerful message of economic empowerment. The “Trellidor Local Fashion Police Jail Photobooth” playfully addressed the importance of supporting local fashion. Guests who dared to enter the event without locally made attire were playfully “arrested” and subjected to a light-hearted “Walk of Shame” before making a public pledge to champion local fashion in the future.

The “jail” wasn’t just a lighthearted stunt; it doubled as a photo booth where attendees, both “arrested” and not, could capture their stylish looks. This interactive element created excitement and perfectly encapsulated the campaign’s message – promoting local fashion while creating a fun and memorable experience.

Proudly South African’s Chief Marketing Officer, Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi, praised the campaign’s impact: “This year’s Local Fashion Police competition has been a remarkable journey. The finale is more than celebrating winners; it’s about celebrating the campaign’s message – Local fashion is a movement driving economic empowerment and job creation.”

Adding to the night’s glamour, self-appointed ambassador Dr. Mamokgethi Phakeng was honored for her unwavering dedication to promoting South African brands. Janis Robson, Business Development Head at FNB, emphasized the importance of supporting the initiative: “We are honored to be part of such an important initiative that empowers young creatives to build the next generation of unstoppable fashion brands.”
