South African talk show host Tholo Motaung uses “The Real Queer Talk” to spark dialogue and understanding about LGBTQI+ issues in Africa.

Tholo Motaung, also known as “The Inimitable One,” is making waves in South Africa and beyond with his thought-provoking talk show, “The Real Queer Talk.” Launched in late 2023 on the Dream Stream online platform, the show quickly gained a loyal following within the LGBTQI+ community and beyond.

The show’s positive reception and audience engagement fueled the demand for a second season. Recently, Motaung launched Season 2 with a glittering soiree, welcoming prominent guests from civil society organizations, political parties, the media, and upcoming personalities featured on the new season.

Despite 30 years of democracy in South Africa, many LGBTQI+ individuals still face societal challenges due to ingrained beliefs, misconceptions, and lack of awareness. Motaung tackles these issues head-on, fostering critical conversations that dismantle prejudice and promote inclusivity. Notably, in February 2024, he collaborated with LGBTQI+ activists from around the world, including the UK, USA, Ghana, and Uganda, to commemorate LGBTQI+ History Month.

“The current political climate often threatens the rights of LGBTQI+ people,” says Motaung. “That’s why hosting a show like this is so important. We, as queer people, need to champion initiatives that educate society about the significance of inclusivity. I’m dedicated to amplifying LGBTQI+ voices across various platforms, ensuring our rights are protected and respected.”

Season 2 promises in-depth discussions on critical issues affecting the LGBTQI+ community while educating the broader public. The show will also explore the achievements and milestones of its guests, creating a platform for celebrating Pride Month 2024 in a meaningful way.
