Lufthansa Launches Direct Johannesburg-Munich Service – FASHION FORCE AFRICA

A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially launched Lufthansa’s new direct service between Johannesburg and Munich. This momentous occasion unlocked a new era of connectivity between the two cities, marking a significant milestone in Lufthansa’s 62-year presence in South Africa. Leading the early morning festivities were Lufthansa’s CEO, Jens Ritter, and his wife, who stepped off the plane to a rousing performance by Zulu dancers. Their colorful attire and energetic steps set a vibrant scene that captured the true spirit of South Africa

Adding to the significance of the event were Mpumi Mfofu, CEO of Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), and Mr. Lebogang Isaac Maile, the MEC for Finance and Economic Development, who joined the welcoming party and extended their warm greetings to Lufthansa’s CEO upon arrival.

This high-level reception underscored the importance of the new route, symbolising its potential to strengthen ties and boost economic growth between Germany and South Africa.”This new service offers our South African customers greater flexibility and travel options,” said Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa. Passengers can now choose between the convenience of a direct flight to Munich or Lufthansa’s existing daily service to Frankfurt.

Both routes are competitively priced, allowing travellers to even combine them for a multi-city adventure. Operating year-round, the new service offers departures from Johannesburg every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday morning.

Travellers will experience the comfort and efficiency of the Airbus A350-900, a state-of-the-art aircraft featuring Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class cabins. This direct route boasts a flight time of just 10 ½ hours, making it one of the fastest ways to reach Western Europe from South Africa.

“The direct connection between Munich and Johannesburg will undoubtedly boost bilateral trade, create jobs, and contribute to the overall economic prosperity of both regions,” said Mpumi Mfofu, CEO of (ACSA). This route also strengthens South Africa’s position as a key player in the global aviation network.
