Durban, South Africa – MASANGO by Siphosihle, the South African fashion house known for pushing boundaries, is making a splash at this year’s Durban July, the country’s premier horse racing event. Siphosihle, the brand’s creative director, is collaborating with a star-studded lineup of celebrities and influencers, creating show-stopping looks inspired by the theme “Ride The Wave.”

MASANGO’s theme delves deeper than just ocean aesthetics. Siphosihle draws inspiration from childhood favorites like “The Little Mermaid,” employing innovative fabric manipulation techniques and shimmering embellishments that mimic the way light dances on water.

The diverse group of collaborators brings their unique interpretations to life. Phuthi Khomo, known for her red-carpet elegance, desires a look that embodies a confident mermaid emerging from the ocean. “We were inspired by treasures washed ashore, like pearls,” she explains, highlighting the outfit’s elegance and movement.

Top influencer Doro Mongy sees the theme as a metaphor for South Africa’s changing political climate. “The tide is changing,” she says, “encouraging us to embrace the transformation.” Her outfit will capture the power of waves shaping the shoreline.

Siphosihle thrives on creative freedom. Music producer Mawhoo and DJ Lameiz Holworthy entrusted him with complete creative control, requesting something “unique and interesting.”

Lameiz, known for her red-carpet style, wanted to subvert expectations. “Everyone might gravitate towards blues and greens,” she says. She and Siphosihle landed on a modern interpretation of Ursula, the sea witch from “The Little Mermaid,” emphasizing Ursula’s hidden beauty and confidence.

Lameiz’s vision resonates deeply. “This is for any woman who has ever felt like Ursula,” she declares. “Find the right designer, someone who understands you and makes you feel like a goddess.”
