WOMEN TAKE CENTER STAGE: DECOREX JOBURG 100% DESIGN AFRICA CELEBRATES DESIGN POWERHOUSE THIS WOMEN’S MONTH. – Fashion Force Africa Magazine

Johannesburg, South Africa (July 24, 2024): This Women’s Month, Decorex Joburg and 100% Design Africa are shining a spotlight on the exceptional talent of female designers shaping the future of South African design. Held from August 1-4, 2024, at the Sandton Convention Centre, these events mark a powerful kickoff to Women’s Month, culminating in National Women’s Day on August 9th.

The South African design industry boasts a vibrant community of women who are not merely following trends, but actively setting them. These visionary designers are carving new spaces, fostering innovation, and promoting social equity through their work. Decorex Africa, with its nearly all-female team, is committed to championing this diversity and its impact on the industry.

Decorex Joburg and 100% Design Africa bring together a stellar lineup of female designers, architects, engineers, and artists. From furniture makers and ceramicists to textile artists and interior decorators, these women represent a vast spectrum of expertise.

Highlights from the Exhibition:

  • Lexus “Making Luxury Personal” Spaces: Anna Correia, Kgomotso Malope (MoTSO DeSIGNED), and Sihan Wiid (Mink Interiors) will showcase their interpretations of luxury car design translated into stunning interior spaces.
  • Living Inspired Interiors: Owned by Tanya Solomon, this company will create a room set inspired by Plascon’s color palettes.
  • Plascon Colour Design Pods: These pods will highlight the diverse possibilities of color using Plascon’s 2024 Colour Forecast, encouraging exploration and experimentation by designers.
  • Kalki Ceramics: This Durban-based studio, co-founded by Nindya Bucktowar, will showcase its bespoke ceramic creations. Kalki was the winner of the 2022 Nando’s Hot Young Designer Talent Search.
  • Ananta Design Studio: Sisters Viveka and Rucita Vassen will exhibit their unique beaded lighting and decor pieces, highlighting their commitment to empowering female artisans.
  • Infinity Surfaces Collaboration: This exciting project elevates South African furniture design to a global stage, featuring works by Mpho Vackier (TheUrbanative) and Tanisha Neill (N I S H).
  • Jana + Koos: Creative visionary Jana Hamman played a pivotal role in shaping the Decorex and 100% Design Africa 2024 brand identity and graphic design.
  • HesseKleinloog Studio & Anatomy Design: Megan Hesse and Andrea Kleinloog will showcase their expertise in sustainable hotel design at 100% Hospitality by Belgotex. Kleinloog, named as one of the “Women Shaping the Future of Sustainable Hotel Design” by Condé Nast Traveller in 2024, offers valuable insights in her talk about navigating design as a woman in Africa.
  • Wolkberg Casting Studio: Co-founded by Ramielle de Jager, this industrial design studio will cater to the appetites of showgoers with the 100% Design Africa Café. De Jager is a regular Future Talks contributor and a leading product innovator.
  • Future Talks: This platform for design inspiration features dynamic hosts, including Cassandra Twala (MOEA Design), Jana Hamman, and Audrey Nanjala.
  • Coote and Wench: This design brand, founded by Storm Coote, transforms salvaged materials into unique lamps and furniture pieces.
  • Studio Lloyd: Founded by Ashlee Lloyd, this internationally acclaimed lighting design studio will curate a designer room set, showcasing its award-winning functional art pieces.
  • Alice Tindall Textiles & KOBO Africa: These women-owned brands will showcase their beautiful textiles and throws.
